Buru
Buru is an island of the archipelago Indonesia N of the Moluques located at 68 km in the west of Seram. Its surface is of 9.505 km ². The island is mountainous and glaze of forest, and has a narrow coastal plain. The principal city is Namlea, which has a good port and an airport.
Administratively, Buru belongs to the kabupaten (department) of Maluku Tengah of the province of Moluques.
The writer indonésien Pramoedya Ananta Toer spent 14 years of detention (of 1965 to 1979) to the bagne of Buru, where it conceived his Tetralogi Buru (" Tetralogy of Buru") while starting by telling it with its fellows-prisoner, then to transcribe it in writing.
