Burhanuddin Rabbani , born in 1940, is the founder and current chief of the Afghan political party Jamiat Islami, one of the parties of Afghan resistance against the Soviet , of islamist inspiration and especially gathering (but not exclusively) Tadjik S of North. The commander Ahmed Chah Massoud was responsible for the military branches of this party.
In 2006, it takes the head of a coalition the old ones and current strong men of the country, commanders of Afghan resistance against the Soviet , former Communist leaders and of various social and ethnic groups, which takes the name of plain National front, and is affirmed quickly like the main force of opposition to the government of the president Hamid Karzai. Gathering several antagonistic currents on the plans policy (moudjahiddines, former Communists and royalists), ethnic (Pachtounes /non pachtounes) and monk (Shiite S Sunnite S), this coalition of lords of the war seems to be the political grouping most significant appeared in Afghanistan since the inversion of the Taliban in 2001.
Burnahuddin Rabbani is a monk originating in the province of the Badakhshan (North-eastern), generally indicated by the title ustâd (professor), which made its studies with the Islamic university Al-Azhar with the Cairo.
