The Burgundy is a French Région which gathers four departments: the Yonne (89), the Coast-with Or (21), the Nievre (58) and the Saône-et-Loire (71).

History

Burgundy owes its name with the tribe of the Burgondes which created a kingdom of Burgondie. This last became Royaume of Burgundy then of Carolingian Two-Burgundy at the time .

For the the Middle Ages, it is advisable to distinguish the Comté from Burgundy of the Duché of Burgundy. The first (maintaining the Franche-Comté) was ground of empire, the second made up of the counties of Mâcon, Chalon, Sens, Auxerre, Tonnerre, Nevers, Autun belonged to the kingdom of France.

Also, the dukes of Burgundy were vassal of King de France for the duchy of Burgundy, the Artois and the Flanders, and vassal of the Emperor for the county of Burgundy, the Gueldre, the Hainaut, the the Brabant and other grounds.
