In Belgium, with the Luxembourg and in Democratic republic of Congo, the burgomaster is the holder of the executive power at the communal level.

In Walloon region, the burgomaster is often also called mayor or maior and in Gaume one often employs the term “mayor”.

In Luxembourg

To the Luxembourg the holder of the communal executive power generally carries this title of burgomaster, but some communes, as Differdange uses the title of mayor.

As a Democratic republic of Congo

In Democratic republic of Congo, the cities are subdivided in communes. The holder of the communal executive power carries the title of burgomaster, and that of mayor on the level of the city.
