Burger King
Burger King (sometimes abbrégé BK ) is a large chain of Fast-food industry with 11.000 places of sale in 65 countries. In Australia, the 300 Burger King restaurants bear the name of Hungry Jack' S .
In 2002 Texas Pacific, Capital Bath LLC and Goldman Sachs Capital bought the three quarters of the actions for 1,5 billion dollar.
History
The first restaurant of the chain is opened with Miami the December 4th 1954 under the name of Insta Burger King by James McLamore and David Edgerton, two students of the Cornell University School off Hotel Administration. McLamore had visited the restaurant pertaining to the brothers Mc Donald with San Bernardino in California and includes/understands the potential of such a service of restoration and decides to create its own version of it.
In 1967, Burger King is bought by Pillsbury, which itself is repurchased by Grand Metropolitan PLC off Britain in 1988.
In 1989, the frankness acquires many sales outlets of its British rival Wimpy when its Parent company buys the mark with United Cookies and integrates it at Burger King, accentuating even more its presence in the country. Whereas Wimpy restaurants exist still today (from now on independently of Burger King), they do not have any more the same presence but in the past (the market being now dominated by Burger King and especially McDonald's).
In 1997, Grand Metropolitan amalgamates with Guinness to form the company Diageo.
In 1997 Burger King decides to leave the France and closes its 39 restaurants there.
The December 13rd 2002, Burger King is repurchased 1.5 billion Dollar S by a private group directed by Stanley Foster and the firm Texas Pacific Group. The new owners revitalized the company and carried out approximately 367 million dollars of dividends.
Today, Burger King is n°2 fast-food in the USA, behind McDonald's.
Mascot
The mascot of Burger King is called itself the Burger King (sometimes shortened in King ). It is represented like a bearded King vêtu of royal robeses, with a crown. It appears especially in the publicities televised in the United States.
Since 2003, she is played by a dressed up actor carrying a Masque of plastic with a fixed merry expression. That made it famous in the popular culture states-unienne because many spectators found his appearance grotesque and alarming (the old version of Burger King was a man without mask and with a true beard).
