Burgan

Burgan , located at the Kuwait, is the second oil Gisement conventional of planet in the face, after Ghawar in Saudi Arabia.

He was discovered in 1938, and represents first discovered oil in the country. The production started just after the Second world war, to reach 1 Mbbls /j in 1955, then 2 in 1968, and a peak with 2,41 in 1972, quantity which never will undoubtedly be equalized. One often speaks about the zone “Greater Burgan”, also including the layers Al-Magwa and Al-Ahmadi .

According to a document published in January 2006 by Petroleum Intelligence Weekly (PIW), the layer has 88 Gbbls of oil initially in place. Of this volume, “at least” 26,5 Gbbls were already extracted (or burned during the Guerre of the Gulf of 1991), it remains 15 Gbbls of proven reserve and 5,3 of probable reserve. That would correspond toa rate of recovery of 47 % minimum and 53 % maximum, rate higher than the average, but normal for a layer of this type (very large tank, rather fluid oil, very permeable tank).

One would thus arrive atan ultimate producible rate of 41 at 46 Gbbls, lower than the quantity of 60 Gbbls traditionally given. The current production of the zone ( Greater Burgan ) is of approximately 1,6 Mbbls/j. A few years ago, the KOC (national company) thought of increasing it until 2 Mbbls/j, but finally a level of 1,7 appeared the “bearable” maximum. According to certain sources, the most important producible horizons of the layer will be filled with water about 2010, and the flow will thus decrease strongly.
