Bulletin of the Large army

The Bulletin of the Large army is the name of a Périodique published under the First Empire. It was published in the official body of the mode, the Universal Monitor, also called the Monitor. Copies were also sent to the local authorities and were affixed on the walls of the public buildings.

Four series having each one their classification left press, each one corresponding has a campaign of Napoleon.

These Bulletins almost exclusively describe the military activity and the plans of the Large army and its opponents - current or potential. Here and it one finds comments eulogistic on soldiers, officers and the units for such or such action. They are addressed not only to the soldiers of the Large army, with which it allows to better apprehend the globality of the action in which they take part, but also to the public and the courses foreign. It is for this reason extraordinary communications tools of Napoleon, which gave birth to among the grognards the expression “liar like a Bulletin”

38 Bulletins are appeared in 1805 - 1806, 87 in 1806 - 1807, 30 in 1809 and 29 in 1812. With those, one can also assimilate the official reports which replace the Bulletins formally, in 1813 and 1814.
