Bulgaria Air

Bulgaria Air (in Bulgarian БългарияЕр) is a national Airline company Bulgarian, whose seat is with Sofia.

History

The company was founded in November 2002 by decision of the Minister for Transport and Transport to take again the network of Balkan Bulgarian Airlines after its bankruptcy. The exploitation of the network began on December 4th, 2002. The name and the logo of the company were selected following a contest open to the public.

Bulgaria Air was privatisée in 2006. A rumor said that the government wished to sell the company to a large foreign investor but it is in fact a conglomerate of local companies, carried out by Hemus Air, which gained the market vis-a-vis a single Italian competitor Air One.

Hemus Air carried out a first payment of 6,6 million euros and promised to invest 86 additional million over the five years to come. 15 new planes were added to the fleet to extend the domestic network.

Before even the repurchase by Hemus Air, the two companies had already agreements of division of code, amongst other things on the connection Sofia Berlin Tegel. Since the repurchase, the house Bulgaria Air also gathers the fleets and networks of old the Hemus Air and Viaggio Air.

The principal partners are Aeroflot, Air France, Air One, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, SCUMS, KLM, BATCH Polish Airlines, Malev and Virgin Atlantic.
