Buick Skylark

The Buick Skylark is a model of car introduced in 1953 for the fiftieth birthday of the American mark Buick.

History

1953 - 1954

This car belonged to the range Buick Roadmaster and was available only in version Décapotable - only one Skylark 1953 hardtop was produced. Skylark were the model of most expensive Buick there this year and cost 5.000 US$. All the equipment which was then in option on the other Buick models was standard on Skylark, except the Climatisation which did not appear in Buick convertible before 1956. Single Skylark hardtop was equipped with it. The standard equipment included in particular: the assisted direction and brakes, the automatic Transmission Twin Harnesses Dynaflow , the panes, antenna and seat with assisted order, a radio operator AM with search for stations, an electric system 12V, wheels Kelsey-Beam with rays, an engine V8 322 inches cubic with Carburateur 4 bodies of a power of 188 Chevaux.

In 1954, Skylark was based on the model Century, smaller but having the majority of the characteristics of the model 1953. The engine was same but a little the more powerful in its version 1954 (200 horses).

1961 - 1974

After a few years of absence, the name Skylark reappeared in 1961 on the top-of-the-range model of the new compact car of Buick, the Special. This car was monocoque and its engine was small the V8 out of aluminum of Buick which was sold later with Rover. In 1962, the car was almost unchanged but the central reinforcement of the roof was eliminated to make a model hardtop . A convertible version also appeared. The model 1963 with undergone an esthetic recasting but kept same mechanics.

In 1964, Skylark became a little larger and she was now regarded as an intermediate car of size. Aluminum V8 of 215 cubic inches of the models 1961-1963 was replaced by a V6 out of cast iron of 225 cubic inches and V8 300 inches cubic out of cast iron (with aluminum heads in 1964 only). The Carrosserie was now assembled on an independent frame, as on the other Buick models, and the transmission used was also new. In 1965, a named more powerful version Gran Sport used a V8 engine coming from the model Wildcat of 401 cubic inches in the place of V6 Buick 225 cubic inches and small V8 Buick 300 inches cubic. In 1966,1968 and 1970 Skylark undergoes other esthetic recastings. This model was replaced by the Century model in 1973.

1975 - 1997

In 1975, Buick re-elected Skylark the versions 2 doors its compact Apollo. The model 4 doors is him also become Skylark in 1975.

In 1980, Skylark became a model with traction. This model was produced until 1997.
