Bugle

See also: Bugle (homonymy)

The bugle (in German " flügelhorn" , by extension " flugelhorn" in English - attention the English word “bugle” is a " forgery ami" , it indicates a Clairon) is a Musical instrument with wind of the family of the Saxhorn S, subfamily of the coppers invented by Adolphe Sax. The standard model is that in If b . It has the same register theoretically as the trumpet in If b , request the application of same the tacts but its conical tube (characteristic of the Saxhorn S) returns the access to the difficult acute register. On the other hand this conicity gives him a very soft prompt response and especially sound and very " rond". One finds this instrument in the Arm-band S, harmony, Fanfare S where it is used for its sound qualities in the low register and the medium. Sometimes, but today more and more seldom, a " small bugle" in semi b is used for acute parts.

In Jazz, it is often used like instrument soloist, generally, by trumpet players who " doublent" with the bugle. Rare are the jazzmen which use only this instrument.

There exists a rare instrument (manufactured by the mark Monette on a concept of the jazzman Art Farmer) which is a compromise between the trumpet and the bugle: the " flumpet". See:
