Bug-Jargal

Bug-Jargal , written in 1818, is the first novel of Victor Hugo (the author writes it at sixteen years, in fifteen days following a bet). It appears in the review the literary conservative in 1819 but will not be published for the first time in 1826. The novel tells the adventures of Léopold d' Auvernay, young officer of the French Army which will find the girl of a French colonist to marry it. The their marriage day before, there is a revolt against the domination of the colonists, and his future wife is made remove by a slave who, thereafter, will try to find it through the island.
