Buffières

Buffières is a common French, located in the department of Saône-et-Loire and the area Burgundy.

Geography

250 inhabitants in winter, the double in summer, Buffières is in Saône-et-Loire, Burgundy. The village is with 15 kilometers from Cluny and 40 of Mâcon.

History

The first trace in the history is located around 914 (date to be checked). The ager buferiacensis is indexed in a capitulary charter of the abbey of Cluny.

There would have been a lord with Buffières, even if null trace does not remain of a strong castle. However, the assumption seems credible because of presence of several very old houses with Buffières: - in Seignes, a residence remarkable, still called here and there " the domaine" ; - in Blanet (currently on Donzy-the-National), old house-strong (ex Carrette house). Its place enabled him to control the passage on the old way of Buffières with Donzy-the-National (or Royal, before 1789) before the construction of the departmental way (n°41 today); - on Louère, of the visible traces of plane (and on photographs satellite) of an important construction.

The " château" visible below the Furnace a vestige Middle Ages is of nothing. It is about a middle-class residence, built, seems it, at the beginning of the 19th century.

The Revolution and its consequences will involve an important phenomenon which is found still today in the communal life.

Traces of the history

With the valley: a christianized menhir (with a cross posed on the stone).
