Buddy Holly
Buddy Holly , of its true name Charles Hardin Holley , (born the September 7th 1936 with Lubbock with the Texas - died the February 3rd 1959 with Mason City in the Iowa) is a Chanteur, Guitariste and Compositeur of Rock' roll.
In 1941, Buddy Holly carries out its first appearance on scene in company of his/her brothers Larry and Travis. There they gain this day, a price after having sung “Down to rivet memories off”. Towards the 11 years age, Buddy studies the Solfège and the Piano. After a single year of musical study, it continues its work with the piano alone.
In 1949, it forms a duet with a friend met with the college, Bob Montgomery. The two friends play together until in 1953, date on which they record two titles on a tape at Buddy: Footprints in the snow of Bill Monroe and instrumental. At that time, they begin both to animate small local evenings. A bass player will come to join the duet, forming in 1954 a small formation which turns regularly to the Texas.
With the end of the year 1955, the group is four, Buddy, Bob, Don Guess which takes again the low one and Jerry Allison with the battery. Jerry Allison tells that, noticing the absence of battery in the first recordings of Elvis Presley carried out at Sun Records, of Memphis, Buddy will require of him to temporarily withdraw group, question of reproducing the sonority of the titles accurately its idol… decision which was reversed when Elvis Presley incorporated the battery in its pett together. Noticed some time earlier by the label Decca, Buddy records with Nashville four titles, Blue Days, Black Night , Midnight Shift , Love me , and Don' T like back knocking with its accomplices Don Guess (low) and Sony Curtis (guitar solo).
During a second voyage to Nashville 1956, Holly had resorts to the services of J.I. Allison with the battery for the recording of a mythical version of " Rock'n'roll around with Olie Vee" (composed by Sony Curtis) and of the first jet of a piece which will pass later to the history: " That' L Be the day". At the same time near - mélodiquement - and far - structurally of the version from 1957, the " That' L Be the day" Nashville version, without being bad, does not present Buddy Holly under its best day: At the request of the persons in charge of the recording, the song was recorded in a tonality which proves to be too high for B. Holly, causing a certain discomfort throughout the service.
At a last session with Decca Grady Martin, talented musician of studio of Nashville having also taken part in the recordings of Johnny Horton, Brenda Lee, Johnny Burnette and of many other artists, took the changing of Curtis on " Modern Gift Juan" and an ultimate version of " Rock'n'roll around with Olie Vee" - this last part also implying the " session man" Buddy Harmon with the battery. The titles unfortunately do not have any success and at the end of three sessions of recordings, the contract is not renewed. However, of the titles like Modern gift juan , Ting has ling , Rock around with Ollie Vee , inter alia, constitute an exceptional reference as regards primitive Rockabilly.
In 1957, Buddy reforms a new group made up of Jerry Allison to the battery, Larry Wellborn with low and Nicky Sullivan with the rhythmic guitar, the name of the “Crickets” is given to this formation where Holly assumes to him even the guitar solo. Having discovered the studio of Norman Petty, located at Clovis, New Mexico City, Buddy goes there regularly in order to records many models of which some will be the subject of posthumous publications after being seen surimprimer some musical tracks additional, question of answering at the request of the years 1960 for the stereophonic sound. With the number of these recorded pieces with Clovis before Buddy Holly had known the fame, let us quote " Bo Diddley" , " Brown eyed hansome man" , " Baby won' T you like out tonight" , " I' m gonna set my foo right down" , " Mona" as well as many other parts of other local artists for whom it ensures the guitar. In the tread of these sessions supervised by Norman Petty, Buddy thus records That" L Be the Day with its group which will rise in the third place of the charts. Others hits will follow like Maybe baby , Peggy Sue , Oh Boy , Rave One , Early in the Morning . In addition to these titles, its Crickets had been born, a its original influencing good number of artists thereafter. Tele passages and rounds will follow to the sessions in studio. On scene, the Crickets cotoient enter others, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, Paul Anka, Fats Domino, and The Everly Brothers, etc
The February 2nd 1959 with Clear Lake in Iowa, the poster is made up inter alia Ritchie Valens ( Bamba ), of Big Bopper ( Chantilly laces ) and of Buddy Holly. After the show, the artists decide to regain Fargo in the North Dakota by plane to be able to rest by avoiding the interminable voyages by bus, but the plane is crushed a few minutes later - the February 3rd 1959.
