Bucerotidae

Of the bucérotidés (or Bucerotidae ) is that of the calaos (the Bucorve S or calaos terrestrial are now classified in a particular family, the bucorvidés ).

They are Oiseau X of small size to very large (30 to 120 cm), with length Bec curve surmounted by a hollow helmet which often makes them confuse with the Toucan S which are of Ramphastidés about the Piciform ones. Bucérotidés have wing S broad and round, and a long tail.

One finds them in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia of South-east. They attend especially the Forêt S, but also of other raised zones and the Savane.

Systematic position

Traditionally classified in of the Coraciiformes, of the experiments of Hybridation of the DNA showed that this family was to be separate about it to constitute the order of the Bucérotiformes and divided into two families (Classification of Sibley & Monroe):
  • bucérotidés , for the true calaos ,
  • the Bucorvidés , for the Bucorve S or calaos terrestrial .
