Buccaneers RFC is a club of Rugby Irish based in the town of Athlone, in Irish Republic which evolves/moves in the Irish championship of the first division.
The club is affiliated with the federation of the Connacht and its players can be selected for the team representative of the area, Connacht Rugby.
History
Born in 1994 from fusion between Athlone RFC and Ballinasloe RFC , Buccaneers RFC draws its name from Shannon Buccaneers, a club of the years 1930. Buccs alternatively played their matches in the two cities, distant of 15 km. The club gains the title of the Third Division in 1996, then in 1998 ensures the rise in the First Division under the orders of Eddie O' Sullivan, the current trainer of the team of Ireland. With the general surprise, the club finishes this season 1999 in the third place. In 2005, Ballinasloe took again its independence, but the club preserved its name of Buccaneers.
