Buc (Yvelines)

Buc is a common French of the department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France.

Geography

The commune is located at 21 km in the south-west of Paris.
The old village and the major urbanized part of the city are in the valley of the Bièvre at an altitude of approximately 100 meters. A excentré district is on the Plateau of Saclay a few 75 meters higher.

The communes bordering are Versailles in north, Jouy-in-Josas in the North-East, Cabin-in-Josas in south-east, Toussus-the-Noble in the south, Châteaufort in the extreme south-west on approximately 400 meters and Guyancourt in the west.

The commune is crossed according to a North-South axis by the secondary road 938 (Versailles - Saint-Rémy-the-Chevreuse).

In the railway plan, the stations the closest SNCF are the Gare of Versailles - Building sites and the Gare of Small Jouy - the Cabins.

History

The name of “Buc” derives from the Latin buscum which indicates the Buis.

  • Territory attached to the field of Versailles in 1660 and attended by Louis XIV at the time of his shooting parties.
  • 1684-1686: building work of the Aqueduct of Buc.
  • 1880: construction of the fort of Haut-Buc
  • July 25th 1909: installation of Louis Blériot on 200 hectares; it establishes its private aerodrome and, in 1913, a flying school.

Culture

  • Church Saint-Jean-Baptist: built church hones of it Meulière as from the 12th century, increased in 1994. The nave is of style Gothic, the bell-tower of Romance style . In the bell-tower, the bell, melted and blessed in 1775 and baptized Louise Auguste Adélaïde by her godfather Louis XVI, is classified historic building.
  • Aqueduct of Buc: built by Louvois in 1686 to feed the park of the Castle of Versailles starting from the ponds of Saclay, it comprises 19 grinding stone arches, high, and 21 m is 580 m long. Closed down, it was classified historic building in 1952.
  • Castle of Haut-Buc: the old castle was included in large the Parc of Versailles and was used for Louis XIV to lodge one of his/her natural children, the count de Toulouse and duke of Penthièvre, Louis Alexandre of Bourbon which moved in then with the Pavillon of Water to Louveciennes. It was destroyed in 1740 on order of Louis XV. The current castle, property of the commune, were built on the site towards 1864.
  • Extremely of Haut-Buc: it belongs to the strengthened belt of the capital.
  • In the wood of Gonards close to the aqueduct, the Oak of Louis XIV, old probably of more than 500 years, survived the storm of 1999. It unfortunately collapsed of old age, the last week of the year 2004.
  • the album S.O.S. Meteors (1959) of Edgar P. Jacobs, one of the adventures of Blake and Mortimer, occurs to Buc and in its surroundings.
  • a festival of cartoons is held to with it since 1994.
