Brzeziny

Brzeziny (Polish: " Bʒezinɪ") is located in the Voïvodie de Łódź at 21 kilometers of Łódź and at 101 kilometers of Warsaw. The origin of the name comes from the Polish " brzozy" who means birch. Indeed, the city is located on an old forest of birches.

The first traces of the city date from the 11th century. With, Brzeziny was famous for its textile industry and its tailors. The population rose with 9641 inhabitants in 1900, 17108 in 1913 including 54.4% of Jews.

In May 1940, the Nazis established a ghetto in part of the city. It was liquidated the May 14th 1942, the majority of the inhabitants were moved towards the Ghetto of Lodz.
