Bryn Terfel

Bryn Terfel - born in Pantglas (Wales), the November 9th 1965 - is a singer of opera of Baritone-low voice famous both for its vocal qualities its presence in scene. It is mainly with roles of Mozart, in particular Leporello, that Bryn Terfel was initially made known. It then packed its repertory to include there more difficult roles, such those of Richard Wagner.

Attracted by the music as of its more young age, it was initiated with the Welsh traditional song by a friend of its family. Endowed, it gained many contests of song and, in 1984, went to study in Guildhall School off Music of London which it left in 1989. This same year, it acquired notoriety in England while gaining illustrates it off contest of the BBC “Singer the World” in the category Lieder . Of its true name Bryn Terfel Jones , it chose as name of scene Bryn Terfel because Bryn Jones was already used by another singer.

In 1990, it made its beginnings with the national Opera of Wales by playing Guglielmo in Così fan tutte . During the same season, it held the title role in the Marriages of Figaro and it is with this same role that it began in 1991 with the national Opera from England.

Bryn Terfel made its beginnings with the the United States by playing Figaro with the opera of Santa Fe, and occurred with Covent Garden in 1992 in the role of Masetto ( Don Juan ), at the sides of Thomas Allen in the title role. Its true international opening came with its interpretation from Jochanaan in the Salome from Richard Strauss to the Festival from Salzburg 1992. It then went to sing Figaro with the opera of Vienna and signed a franchise agreement with Deutsche Grammophon. It turned over then to the national Opera of Wales to interpret there Ford in Falstaff .

In 1994, Bryn Terfel held the role of Barber in Covent Garden and made its beginnings with the Metropolitan Opera New York in this same role. He interpreted also the Eighth Symphony of Gustav Mahler with the festival of Ravinia, under the direction of James Levine. In 1996, it includes Wagner and Stravinsky with its repertory and interpreted the Wolfram of Tannhäuser in Metropolitan Opera and Nick Shadow in The Rake' S Progress ( the Libertine ) with the national Opera of Wales.

Bryn Terfel made its beginnings with the Scala of Milan in the role of Barber in 1997 and gave the following year a recital to the Carnegie Hall in which he interpreted, inter alia, of works of Wolf, Fauré, Brahms, Schumann, Schubert.

It is in Paris in 1999 that Bryn Terfel incarnated Don Juan for the first time. The same year, it lent its voice to Falstaff with the lyric Opera of Chicago.

Begun in 2000, the Festival of Faenol (or Festival Bryn Terfel de Faenol ), accommodates annually close to Snowdonia, in Wales, of the singers of opera to the world famous and the Welsh popular singers.

In 1994 and 2000, Bryn Terfel had to cancel several representations to be made operate back. In 2003, the Prince of Wales decreed to him the title of commander of the Ordre of the British Empire. He lives close to Caernarfon with his Lesley wife and them three children: Tomos, Morgan and Deio Sion.
