It is necessary to wait the 9th century to find the first hard copy of the existence of the town of Bry through a charter of Charles the Bald person going back to 861.
Three centuries later, in 1130, the first church is built. But it is not that in 1254 qu ' it will be devoted and dedicated to the saints Gervais and Protais.
strongholds of Bry
Since the beginning of the Feudality, the territory of Bry is divided between monastic seigniories and laic seigniories. At the beginning of the 14th century, the stronghold of the hotel-extremely, under the aegis of the family of Pacy, joins together good number of these seigniories. In 1404, Robert de Chatillon, cousin of the king becomes the new lord of Bry. Its castle is probably behind the current church, in the place of the Fondation Favier. The second great stronghold of Bry dates from the 15th century. It belongs to Jean de Malestroit, large chancellor of Brittany. Its manor is with the exact site of our Hotel of Malestroit.
Between 1694 and 1696, Nicolas de Frémont, marquis of Auneuil, repurchases the two seigniories and makes build a new hotel, our castle of Bry. The building is the subject of a rebuilding into 1759 which is due to François II Franque (1710-1793). This work is ordered by Etienne de Silhouette, general inspector of finances, former minister of State. They are finished by Mister de Laage, former farmer general, his nephew and heir. The rebuilding of the Castle, after the terrible war which touches Bry so hard, the December 2nd, 1870, transforms the plan of origin seriously.
In 1802, the Prince de Talleyrand rents the castle and settles there for seven years. After its departure, the building is repurchased by the Baron Louis, statesman and large friendly of Talleyrand. Its heiress and niece, Miss de Rigny, made gift of a large amount of money to the commune. In 1866, the municipality uses it for the construction of a town hall-school, the current town hall.
The generosity of Miss de Rigny allows also the installation of a monumental work in the chorus of the church in 1842: the Diorama of Louis Daguerre , other living of the city, (see paragraph below), trompe-l'oeil representing the nave of a Gothic cathedral.
In 1889, the widow of Joseph Favier, rich industrialist living the castle, carries out the wish of her husband by creating with 2 rue du Four an old people's home for elderly which will bear thereafter the name of Fondation Favier.
The 20th century sees the beginning of the transformation of our city. The park of the castle and the seedbeds of Paris are parcelled out and become new districts. In 1926, the city is crossed by the Railway line then begins construction from the hospital Saint-Camille (1936). Establishment of suburban zones and small buildings, the creation of important means of access: Highway A4 (1970) and the RER (1977) and finally the installation of industrial companies and commercial, creative with the tertiary sector of many employment, take part in the significant development of Bry.
By the beauty of its site, its many green areas and its environment, Bry knew to keep, in spite of its evolution, the discrete charm of pleasant a Village where it makes if good things in life, with 12 km only of Paris .
