Bruz

Bruz is a common French, located in the department of the Ille-et-Vilaine and the area Brittany.

Bruz is located at 14 kilometers in the south of the prefecture Rennes, in Ille-et-Vilaine.

History

Bruz is a small town which does not cease increasing, and which will exceed within three years the 20.000 inhabitants. In 15 years, of 1989 to 2005, the population doubled. Chief town of canton, the common one counts today 16.783 inhabitants (census of 2005). It is the 4th city of the department of Ille-et-Vilaine, and 13th of Brittany. It is member of the Communauté of agglomeration of Rennes Métropole.

At the evening of May 7th, 1944, day of solemn communion, the town of Bruz undergoes an air raid by the Royal Air Force, which aimed at the airport of Jacques Saint of the Moor HTTP: /fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande, of a frightening effectiveness; the city is shaven, 183 died and 600 disaster victims for 800 inhabitants at the time.

During the alteration work of the alley of the memory in January 2007, a bomb was discovered. This bomb is now exposed on the site.

  • Monument of May 8th, 1944
  • Church Martin Saint built of 1950 to 1954. Characteristics of the church: its remarkable stained glasses and harmonious alliance of the reinforced concrete and the stone violet marbled of green, said “marbled”.
  • Mill of Boël built in 1652, on the Unpleasant one and its first lock dating from XVIe. Provided with solids buttresses and two paddle wheels, now disappeared, it revêt the shape of stem of ship splitting the current. Manors and farms.
  • Ornithological park of Brittany: large variety of parrots and parakeets, multicoloured pheasants, ducks, barnacles, swans, raptors, open ibis… all the year.
