Brush with washing

The brush with washing is a brush used for the Lavis, but also for the Calligraphie and more generally the writing in the Far East, mainly China, Korea and Japan.

It is originating in China, where there exist originally three principal types of hairs for the brushes:

Lang hao (狼毫 hair of Wolf), relatively firm hair.

yang hao (羊毫 hair of Goat), relatively flexible hair.
xuan hao (选毫 hair of wolf in the center for its firmness and a crown of hair of goat around for its flexibility).

There exist today brushes in various other materials, but these hairs have as a property a good absorption of water and ink, which is important for the techniques of washing.

In Europe, the Pinceau with watercolour is rather close to the brush with washing from its form, but does not have the same properties completely. It generally consists of hair of small-gray (a squirrel) which has very good properties of retention of water, or sometimes of Poney, but this last is a little less absorbent.
