It also gains the championship of North America of the speciality.

Located by Mercedes, Spengler passes in 2003 in the championship of Formule 3 Euroseries, thanks to the support of the firm for the star which places it to ASM. But following a serious accident (broken vertebra) which has occurred during winter tests, its first season at ASM is mainly wasted since it is constrained to make the dead end on the first three meetings of the championship. With three podiums, it finishes 10th championship all the same. Spengler intends well to take its revenge on the fate at the time of the season 2004 (which it disputes within the stable Mucke Motorsport), but for lack of a competitive material, its championship transfers quickly with the way of cross and it is only classified 11th.

Always thanks to its bonds with Mercedes, Spengler manages to obtain for the season a 2005 place in DTM in the TEAM Persson, at the wheel of a Mercedes Classe C of the previous year. It finishes only 16th championship, but taking into account its handicap of material, its performances (in particular in qualifications since it takes down a pole-position and rises with five recoveries in the 10 first) are far from passing unperceived, which encourages the leaders of Mercedes to offer to him for 2006 a place in the stable HWA, champion titrates some with Gary Paffett. Spengler quickly shows with the height hopes placed in him and with 4 victories (what makes of him the most victorious pilot of the season), vice-champion finishes, behind Bernd Schneider and in front of Tom Kristensen.
