The Brumbies (in the past the ACT Brumbies, and also called the CA Brumbies for reasons of sponsoring) are an Australian frankness from Rugby to XV based with Canberra. The name of Brumbies refers to the wild horse living the back country of Canberra called brumby. Brumbies represent ACT and the south of the state of News-Wales of the South. This area corresponds about to the south-east of the Australia, where three historical codes of football Australian: the Rugby with XV, the Rugby with XIII and the Australian Football, have equivalent levels of popularity. In almost all the country, the Rugby with XV is less popular than the Rugby with XIII or the Australian Football, if they are not both.

Brumbies were created in 1996 to provide a third Australian team to the Super 12 which had just been created. Constituted then of the players rejected by the two other teams, he was predicted to them at the time a fast death. Instead of that they since accumulated more success than the two other Australian franknesses (the New South Wales Waratahs and the Queensland Reds), reaching five times the final and gaining the competition twice, being the only Australian frankness to reach that point. They triumphed over the Sharks in 2001 and gained the competition for the second time in 2004 after being come with end from the Crusaders.

In 2005, two regional federations, Far South Coast Union and Southern Inland Rugby Union, integrated the federation of ACT (ACT Rugby Union), involving a change of denomination of the new entity (ACT and Southern NSW Rugby Union) and of that of its representative team which became simply the Brumbies .

The team plays Canberra Stadium, known in the past under the name of Bruce Stadium, with Canberra.
