Bruins de New Westminster
The Bruins de New Westminster are a former team of Hockey of the Western Hockey League, based with New Westminster in Colombia-British. Two franknesses played under the same name:
- of 1971 to 1981 (in the past the Bruins d' Estevan, now known in the WHL under the name of Blazers of Kamloops),
- of 1983 to 1988 (in the past the Islanders de Nanaimo, now known in the WHL under the name of Americans of Tri-City).
The two franknesses played in the Queen' S Park Arena .
History
First Bruins
The frankness was created at the base under the name of the Indians de Humboldt , before moving in 1957 in Estevan. The team becomes then member of the Western Hockey League in 1966 and gains the Coupe of the President in 1968.In 1971, the frankness moves in New Westminster and it continues to align the good performances. Thus of 1975 to 1978, the team gains the Cut of the President each time and takes part thus each time in the Coupe Memorial. The first two years, the team is beaten (by the Marlboros of Toronto and by the Fincups of Hamilton but the team gains the two other finales.
In 1981, the team moves with Kamloops and becomes the junior team of the Oilers de Kamloops before becoming into 1984 the Blazers of Kamloops. The team is always in activity and since the beginning of the frankness, it gained eleven Cuts of the President and five Cuts Memorial.
Second Bruins
The second frankness to bear the name of Bruins arrives at New Westminster in 1983 coming from Nanaimo. The team came at the beginning from Calgary en tant que' Bighorns de Billings. The team will have played only one season with Nanaimo before coming to settle in New Westminster. This new edition of Bruins will not have as much success and at the end of five seasons, she will move once again with Kennewick in the state of Washington and will become the Americans of Tri-City.The frankness bore the following names:
- Buffaloes of Calgary - for the season 1966-67
- Centennials of Calgary - of 1967 to 77
- Bighorns de Billings - of 1977 to 82
- Islanders de Nanaimo - for the season 1982-83
- Bruins de New Westminster - of 1983 to 1988
- Americans of Tri-City - since 1988
