Browning

The browning is a technique of Polissage used in completion:
- Of a metal coating like the Gilding or silvering
- Of a copper alloy or copper, gold, silver manufacture.
The operation is carried out with a tool: the Burnisher.
The burnisher exerts a pressure on the peaks of the surface, which has as a consequence a creep of the matter in the hollows, progressively of the advance of the tool.
The purpose of browning is of:
- to make the surface of metal brilliant;
- to improve the surface quality;
- to reduce the roughness of surface;
- to increase the surface hardness.
