Brown shirts
The brown Chemises are the paramilitary guards of the party NSDAP created in 1921 by a member of the staff, Röhm. These paramilitary formations, sections of attack (SA) of the Parti German national-Socialist adorn brown shirts as from 1925 and count 3 million men in 1934. The power of this “brown army”, having its police force, its prisons, its camps of drive, is such as Hitler, anxious of this State in the State, makes assassinate its chiefs lasting the “Nuit of the long knives” (June 1934).
By metonymy, brown shirts is sometimes used to indicate a formation or a group supposed to share the ideology or the methods of the original brown shirts.
