Brothers of the Sacred Heart
The Congrégation of the Frères of the Sacred Heart saw the day with Lyon in 1821. The Father Andre Coindre, born in 1787, is the founder and like general Supérieur until his death in 1826 directed it.
Initially, it was called congregation of Sacrés hearts of Jesus and Marie, before being called Congrégation of the Sacred Heart in 1872.
It had been let move by the state by abandonment where then young people were that it knew. He wanted, by melting a new institute of Brothers whom the latter are made close to the young people forsaken in their teacher a trade and helping them to find a direction with their life.
In short:
- it opened the Providence of the Pile-Help of Lyon for children and young people with an aim of educating them and of preparing them with the life,
- it went to the Sanctuary of Notre Dame de Fourvière with her first disciples for his dedication as educational Religieux,
- it gave to his/her Brothers the first Rules so that they can be directed in their Community and apostolic life,
- it put its Congregation under the patronage of the Heart of Jesus and of the immaculate Heart of Marie,
- it was sensitive to the needs for its time by opening rural schools in several dioceses of France, without limiting itself with its diocese of origin.
The congregation counts 1.200 Brothers in 32 countries. They direct schools, colleges, colleges, orphanages, and institutes for deaf-mute in 32 countries.
