Brothers of Limbourg
Pol., Jean and Hermann de Limbourg, known as the Brothers of Limbourg ( Paul, Hermann in Johan, Gebroeders van Limburg , in Dutch), born towards 1380 with Nimègue, Netherlands, were painter S and illuminators Dutch, resulting from a family of painters Blason neurs and wire of Arnold de Limbourg and Metta Maelwael, itself sister of Jean Malouel ( Johan Maelwael in Dutch).
Their celebrity in France came from what they carried out, on ordering of the duke of Berry, Jean I {{er}}, illuminations of the Livre of hours named Very Rich Hours of the duke of Berry . They left their unfinished work when they died of the Peste in 1416 at the same time as their silent partner. The illustration of the book was finished between 1485 and 1489 by Jean Colombe on ordering of the duke of Savoy, Charles I {{er}}. The manuscript is in the Musée Cop, with the Château of Chantilly.
The brothers of Limbourg are also the illumineurs of the Livre of hours named the Beautiful Hours of the duke of Berry . This manuscript is in the Metropolitan Museum off Art of New York.
Festival Brothers of Lombourg
Nimègue, birthplace of the brothers of Limbourg, organizes at the end of August a medieval annual festival under the name of Festival Brothers of Limbourg . People in costumes of time inspired partially on medieval illuminations play of the scenes of time: market, campings, battles, plays. The participants put themselves in procession. There are exposures sets of themes and one serves as foods of the time.
