Bromo
The Bromo is a volcano of Indonesia, located in the is island of Java to approximately 100 km in the south of Surabaya in the solid mass of the Tengger. It culminates with 2 329 m of altitude and its crater make 800 m in diameter and 200 m of depth.
The inhabitants of the area remained hindouists. Each year, they observe the ceremony of the Kesada , which consists in making offerings with the crater, considered like a divinity.
At the time of the kingdom of Majapahit (XIVe-XVe century), the inhabitants of Tengger had a special statute. Indeed, in this area is, in the south of Bromo, the volcano Semeru, regarded as the stay of the gods by the hindouists of Java. The inhabitants of Tengger were thus regarded as the guards of the place.
