One launches multiples confettis and paper serpentines there (from where their English name, ticker-slap parades ). The first of these parades took place in 1886 for the inauguration of the Statue of Freedom. It was about a spontaneous movement, and the tradition remained in a more institutional way. Many celebrities were entitled to their “ticker-slap parades”, of which Charles Lindbergh, Charles de Gaulle, the astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins, as well as many Heads of State or of the sporting teams.
