The broad white , or large Pig white English, is a race Porc innate originating in the North-East of the England (Comté of Yorkshire), introduced in France rather recently, in the years 1920.
It is a pig of big size, with the lengthened body parallelipedic, the drawn up ears, with the strong members, rustic and adaptable to varied operating systems. It adapts well to the hot countries, in particular in the west of Africa. The dress is uniformly clear, white, without any spot, with white silks on a white pork rind. The height with the garrot is of 80 cm for the females and 85 cm for the males; the adult weight is respectively of 280 and 320 kg;
It is a prolific race (two ranges per annum), which has good performances as regards growth (a young boar reaches 100 kg in 145 days) and of Indice of consumption. It produces a Viande very good quality, with a low thickness of Lard. It is unscathed gene of sensitivity to the Halothane.
General-purpose race, broad the white holds a central place in the French porcine breeding. It accounts for 60% of the pig herd of France. It is primarily used in crossing, in particular with boars of the race landrace for the production of reproductive sows, and with sows of race piétrain for the production of final boars.
