British Somalia

The British Somalia was a British protectorate established in the north of the Corne of Africa. It joined the Italian Somalia to form the State independent of Somalia on July 1st 1960. The area of old British Somalia is currently asserted like the Republic of the Somaliland, not recognized by the international community.
The Egypt dominated the area of the years 1870 with 1884, date on which the Great Britain establishes a protectorate which was first of all managed since the British Raj, then by the Foreign affairs and finally by the colonial Businesses. During the program of the East Africa of the Second world war, British Somalia was occupied by the Italy in August 1940, then taken again by Great Britain in March 1941. The area obtained its independence the June 26th 1960 and taken the name of Somaliland. A few days later, the principle of a unification with the Italian Somalia was accepted in referendum. The Republic of Somalia was born on July 1st from the same year.
After the fall of the central government in 1991, old British Somalia proclaimed its independence as République of Somaliland but recognized forever by the international community.
