British Amateur Rugby League Association

The British Amateur Rugby League Association ( BARLA ) is the authority managing the Rugby with XIII British amateur , in collaboration with the Rugby Football League.

Until 1973, the sector amateur depended on Rugby League Football. On this date, because there were less and less juniors and that this deficiency worried seriously about many persons in charge of the clubs amateurs, a group of reformists decided, the March 4th 1973, in Greenside Working Men' S Club of Huddersfield, to create British Amateur Rugby League Association. The RFL refused to recognize the new federation. Little by little, the difficulties were levelled. In 1974, the National Council Sport, then at the beginning 1975, the Exchange Council For Physical Recreation admire the BARLA in their bosom. This official recognition involved the creation of the two national teams (junior and senior) then the installation of competitions.

The minister of sport, George Howell inaugurated in 1978, the head office of the BARLA, which settled in Huddersfield. Since, this federation, organized rounds throughout the world for its seniors and its juniors. 36 years later, the BARLA counts more than 1.400 teams.
