British Academy off Film and Television Arts

The British Academy of arts of Television and Film ( British Academy off Film and Television Arts or BAFTA in English) is a British academy which organizes annual ceremonies of handing-over of price in the fields of the cinema, television, films and television programs for the children and of the interactive media.

Introduction

The BAFTA was created in 1947 under the name of British Film Academy. In 1958, the BFA absorbs Guild off Television Producers and Directors to off give rise to Society Film and Television which will become British Academy off Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in 1976. Among the founding members of British Academy Film, one can quote David Lean, Alexander Korda, Carol Reed and Charles Laughton.

The trophies of the academy have the shape of a mask of theater. They were created in 1955 for Guild off Producers Television by the American sculptor Mitzi Cunliffe.

The head office of the BAFTA is located at Piccadilly, with London, but the academy has also offices in the north of England, in Scotland, with the Wales, New York and Los Angeles.

Handing-over of price

Cinema

The principal handing-over of cinematographic prices of the BAFTA, the British Academy Film Awards , proceed since 2000 in the cinema Odeon with Leicester Square. Traditionally, the ceremony proceeded in April or in May but it was advanced in February in 2002 to precede the handing-over of the Oscars. The ceremony is opened with all cinematographies but there exists a specific category for best British film.

Among the winners of 2002, one can quote the Lord of the Rings: The Community of the Ring (better film), Gosford Park (Price Alexander Korda of best British film), Peter Jackson (David Lean Price of the best realizer), Judi Dench (better actress) and Russell Crowe (better actor).

Among the winners of 2004, one can quote the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (better film), Touching the Void (better British film), Peter Weir (better realizer), Scarlett Johansson (better actress) and Bill Murray (better actor).

Television

The British Academy Television Awards are decreed in April, the technical prices being the subject of a dedicated ceremony in May.

Among the winners of 2002, one can quote the comedy The Office and his main actor Ricky Gervais, the emission of TV-reality Pop Idol , the soap-opera EastEnders , the romantic comedy Cold Feet , Julie Walters (better actress) and Michael Gambon (better actor).

Films and programs for children

The British Academy Children' S Film and Television Awards , which are held each year in 1995, were created in 1995.

The prize winner of the price of best film in 2002 was Monstres and Co .

Multi-media

BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards were created in 1998. They reward the best Web sites and the best video games. In 2003, this ceremony was divided into two ceremonies: the Interactive BAFTA Awards and the BAFTA Ranges Awards .
