Brit Air

Brit Air (Code AITA: dB ; Code ICAO: BZH ) is a regional Airline company French created the July 26th 1973, it is a subsidiary company of Air France.

History

In 1973, Xavier Leclercq creates BRITTANY INTERNATIONAL AIR, under trade mark BRIT AIR.

In 1978, Brit Air acquires and the introduction of 3 new apparatuses: 1 Piper Cheyenne of 7 places, 1 Piper Navajo Chieftain of 9 places and 1 Bandeirante of 18 places.

In 1979, Brit Air enters regular regional air transport with the opening of 5 lines at the beginning of Rennes, Morlaix, Quimper, Le Havre and Caen towards London. It make the purchase of 2 new Bandeirante this same year.

In 1983, Brit Air obtains an agreement of freighting with the company Air Inter. It exploits consequently the lines Rennes/Paris and Quimper/Paris. The fleet is made up of 2 Piper Aztec, 2 Piper Cheyenne, 4 Bandeirante 110 and 2 Fokker 27

In 1986, Brit air puts similar agreements at those signed in 1983 (Air Inter) with Air France. Brit Air buys and takes delivery of 2 ATR 42 of 46 and 50 places chartered by Air France.

In 1989, Brit Air prolongs its agreement of freighting with Air Inter. The Fokker 27 are replaced by new ATR 42. The fleet is composed of 6 ATR 42, 6 Saab 340, 4 Embraer 110 Bandeirante, 2 Beechcraft King Air 200,1 Piper Cheyenne. The company announces the order of ATR 42.

In 1991, creation with Morlaix of an aeronautical training center (ICARE), dedicated to the staff training flying personnel and acquisition of a flight simulator ATR 42/72. The fleet is then composed of 10 ATR 42, 2 ATR 72, 6 SAAB 340, 2 Embraer 110 Bandeirante, 2 Beech King Air 200,1 Piper Cheyenne.

In 1995, Brit Air acquires of 4 Canadair Régional Jet (CRJ 100). Brit Air is elected this year there: - “European Company of the year” by the European Association of the Regional Companies; - “World regional Company of the year” by the American review Air World Transport.

In 1997, a contract of air frankness with bearing Air France on totality from the lines operated by BRIT AIR is implemented. The network passes from 22 to 33 regular lines. The fleet is made up of 9 CRJ 100,10 ATR 42,2 ATR 72. ICARE acquires a second flight simulator (CRJ 100)

In 1998, Brit Air enters to the Second Market of the Bourse de Paris. The fleet counts 16 CRJ 100,4 Fokker 100,9 ATR 42,2 ATR 72.

In 2000, Air France becomes majority shareholder of Brit Air. ICARE orders the third flight simulator for the CRJ 100/200/700. Construction with Morlaix from a new head office. Two thirds of the planes of the fleet are jets: 19 CRJ 100,5 Fokker 100,9 ATR 42 and 2 ATR 72.

In 2001, Brit Air is the customer of launching for Bombardier, Brit Air puts on line the first CRJ-700 at the world (a Bi engine of 70 places). The fleet is composed then of 20 CRJ-100, 2 CRJ 700,7 Fokker 100,7 ATR 42 and 2 ATR 72.

In 2002, Marc Lamidey is named President of the company.

In 2003, Brit Air celebrates its 30 years, the company counts 1200 paid and the fleet 37 apparatuses, all the jets.

June 22nd, 2003 the flight Brit Air from Nantes to Brest was crushed with 2.3 miles of the Aéroport of Brest Brittany (with 0.3 mile on the left of the axis of the track). The pilot was the only victim.

In 2007 Brit Air receives 2 new CRJ 700 and restores 2 CRJ 100.

March 2007 the company changes color and has a new site with the new colors of the company. Brit Air has just placed order of 8 bombers CRJ 1000 of 100 places to replace its Fokker 100. The first will be delivered at the beginning of 2010.

  • Soon: The company soon will put on line 8 CRJ1000, new strong link of the Québécois company Bombardier Aviation.

Situation in 2007

  • Many employees: 1.300 (1272 in 2006), 1205 for the airline company, 45 for Icare (aeronautical formation) and 50 for Lyon Maintenance (light maintenance of the planes based in Lyon St Exupery)

It has just placed order of 8 bombers CRJ-1000 of 100 places (of which one with already delivered) and an option on 8 others to replace its Fokker 100. The first will be delivered at the beginning of 2010.
