Brigasque

The brigasque (in Royasque brigasc ) is a variety of the dialect Royasque. He is spoken in the brigasque Country (Terra Brigasca) , with the borders of France (Aspires to It) and of Italy (Briga Alta, Realdo and Verdeggia). He is illustrated by the local review R^ ní of will áigüra ( the Eyrie , where “R^” is the male article).

The character Ligure of this speech from now on is recognized in a unanimous way, after a phase of hesitation during which certain dialectologists hesitated to classify it between the Ligure and the Occitan, but the occitanes influences exist nevertheless. The structural features are mainly Ligures, although the local sociolinguistic representations carry out to assert the brigasque one like Occitan. None the linguists who studied this zone recently (Werner Forner, Jean-Philippe Dalbera, Giulia Petracco Sicardi) admit that there is a character only occitan in this speech (which rests on a limited number of lexical contributions). It is also the position of Pierleone Massajoli, author of a Dizionario beyond will cultura brigasca , which after having considered and having supported the character occitan of this language, ended up recognizing that it was not bearable. However, the regrouping with the minority occitane, operated by the law n° 482/1999 (Italian) as regards historical minorities, is based on a criterion of autoproclamation by the local communal authorities.

Brigasques are between 700 and 800 with speaking the brigasque one, thus distributed:

  • Commune of Aspires to It, Ra Briga , with the hamlet of Morignole;
  • Common of Briga Alta, formed of the hamlets of Piaggia, Upega and Carnino;
  • the hamlet of Viozene in the commune of Ormea;
  • hamlets of Realdo and Verdeggia in the commune of Triora.
