Brigade of investigation into the frauds with information technologies

The Brigade of investigation into the frauds with information technologies , more known under the name of BEFTI (succeeding the SEFTI) is a service of the Regional management of the Judicial police of Paris created in February 1994, has as an essential mission of fighting against the attacks with the systems of automated treatment of data (STAD), which they are the data-processing networks or telematics, or the systems of telecommunications (GSM, automatic exchanges of companies…).

Fields of action

Its fields of action are the following:

  • intrusions in the information systems
  • fight against the counterfeit on numerical supports
  • fraudulent collecting of encrypted televisual media
  • traditional incriminations using new technologies like support of commission (data-processing swindle etc)

In practice, the STAD are often made within the framework of industrial espionage. The STAD made their appearance, in France, in the law (known as Godfrain) of January 5th, 1988. Still applicable at present, but suffering somewhat from its age. The BEFTI is also requested by the investigators confronted with the problems of the numerical proof.
