Brienne-the-Castle

Brienne-the-Castle is a common French, located in the department of the Aube and the area Champagne-Ardenne. The inhabitants of Brienne-the-Castle are called the Briennois .

The commune was called Brienne-Napoleon of 1849 to 1881.

Geography

History

Brienne formed as of the 10th century a county, which gave its name to famous the Maison of Brienne.

Of 1776 with 1790, it was the seat of a military academy where the future Napoleon Bonaparte was pupil. The military college holds an important place in the history of the city and even of France since Napoleon Bonaparte made a 5 years there stay (May 1779 - October 1784). It left Brienne-the-Castle to finish its studies with the Military academy of Paris.

Napoleon sleeps with the castle of Brienne the April 3rd 1805 during the voyage which it makes in Italy to receive the crown of the King of Lombards.

Brienne-the-castle is also the place of a victory of Napoleon i on the Allies the January 29th 1814, where the city was taken and taken again, and destroyed by fire (see Bataille of Brienne).
