Bridge-Twins
Name " Bridges-Jumeaux" indicate the 2 bridges built in 1774 built by Joseph-Marie de Saget, engineer of public works of the province of Languedoc, on the port of the mouth with Toulouse. But in fact, there exist three bridges, which are each one the entry of a channel: that of the Channel of the South for the bridge of the center, that of the side Channel in the Garonne for the northern bridge, and finally that of the Channel of Brienne for the southern bridge. The northern bridge was added during the construction of the side channel in the Garonne in 1844. A low-relief was carried out between the 2 bridges southern part by the Toulouse artist François Lucas in 1775 out of Carrara marble. This sculpture represents the Occitanie as a woman whom the prow of a boat struck with the weapons of the Languedoc supports. By a gesture of command, the Occitanie orders with the channel to receive water of the the Garonne, while two young diggers, equipped with pickaxe, dig the Canal of Brienne. Another female character of this fresco, the Garonne holding a horn of plenty, with at its sides a plowman stimulating his oxen pout to trace a furrow in Lauragais.
Bridge-Twins gave the name to the residential district of the north of Toulouse.
