Brice Lalonde

Biography

Raised in an easy medium (his/her father is a textile manufacturer), it militated a long time with PSU, it was militant with UNEF when it was student. It joined with beginning of the year 70 association the Friends of the Earth whose French section was been based by Alain Herve. Then, he was campaign director of the candidate ecologist to the French presidential election of 1974, Rene Dumont.

In 1977 he is spokesperson of the lists Paris Écologie at the time of the municipal elections.

He was itself candidate with the French presidential election of 1981 like candidate of the ecologists after having beaten at the time of the primary educations Philippe Lebreton - candidate of the Mouvement of ecology policy (MEP), left which he had refused to join with his foundation. Candidate with the municipal elections with Paris 1983 it will be then in 3rd position on radical the Entente list ecologist for the United States of Europe with François Doubin (MRG) and Olivier Stirn (UCR) which will not have elected officials but will contribute to prevent the Greens from passing the bar of the 5%.

In May 1988, it takes part in the government of Michel Rocard. It will be in load of the environment until April 1992 as Secretary of State to the environment then as Deputy secretary with the environment and the natural and technological risks major (October 1990) and finally as Minister of environment (May 1991).

In 1990, it founds Génération ecology, left founded on the initiative of François Mitterrand, as No5el Mamère tells it, and which aimed at breaking a possible success of the Verts to regional of 1992 following their excellent results of 1989. It takes the presidency of it.

Elected official regional adviser of Brittany in March 1992, it approaches the majority from the right of the Parliament and will be re-elected in March 1998 on the list of union UDF-RPR-GE of Marie-Therese Boisseau in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine. Starting from 1993 (victory of the right-hand side to the legislative elections and failure of the Agreement ecologist between Génération Ecology and the Greens), it starts a centring of its party in direction of the aforesaid the right-hand side, becoming a “close relation” of Alain Madelin what involves many departures, of which that of No5el Mamère. Candidate at presidential the 1995 and 2002, it each time withdrew his candidature for lack of sponsorships of sufficient number. In 1995 it will give an opinion for Jacques Chirac.

Since 1995, he is the mayor of Saint-Briac (Ille-et-Vilaine).

Close relationships

Brice Lalonde is first cousin of John Kerry, Democratic senator of the Massachusetts, candidate with the American presidential election of November 2004. Their respective mothers are sisters, resulting from the very easy Forbes family, which had a manor with Saint-Briac (Ille-et-Vilaine), from now on occupied by Brice Lalonde, become since June 1995 mayor of the commune.
