But it is especially of category Sport-Prototypes which Redman forged a remarkable prize list by gaining more than one score of tests and obtaining a number impressing of podiums.

Biography

Redman makes its beginnings in automobile race by disputing tests of local scale with the wheel of modest machines like a Morris Mini. It reaches the international level in 1965 where it runs on Jaguar Type E then on Ford GT40 and finishes 4th the 24 hours of Spa-Francorchamps. Starting from 1967, it engages at the same time in Sport and Formule 2 where it only succeeds in taking down two 6th places. The results are much more convincing in Sport since it obtains its first international victory at the 9 hours of the Rand, in Kyalami, in team with Jacky Ickx.

In 1968, it begins in Formula 1 at the wheel from a Cooper official T181B- Maserati with the GP from South Africa. It is qualified in 21e position (in last line) and must give up with the 4th turn following a driving problem. Especially but, as of the following race, in Spain, in Jarama, Redman has the news Cooper T86B- BRM which enables him to be qualified in medium of group and to take down its first podium behind Graham Hill and Denny Hulme. It yields its bucket to Ludovico Scarfiotti for the test of Monaco and finds it to dispute the GP of Spa where it is victim of an accident at the beginning of the race and the arm breaks: it must then put a term at its season whereas Cooper had engaged it with the GP of the Netherlands. Parallel to its engagements in F1, Redman continues its program in Sport and gains two major tests, the 500 miles of Brands-Hatch and the 1.000 kilometers of Spa (Jacky Ickx on GT40).

Brian Redman is restored in 1969 but does not find a wheel in F1. It is devoted fully to the Sport-Prototypes, from now on at Porsche. The season is bright since with its fellow-member OJ Siffert it collects five successes with the 908 (500 miles of Brands-Hatch, 6 hours of Watkins Glen, 1.000 kilometers of Spa, 1.000 kilometers of Monza, 1.000 kilometers of Nürburgring). Thanks to the Siffert-Redman tandem, Porsche takes down the cut of the manufacturers. He continues with the German firm in 1970 and gains, at the wheel of the 917K, the 24 hours of Daytona with Pedro Rodriguez and Leo Kinnunen, the 1000 km of Spa (with OJ Siffert), the 1000 km of Zeltweg then, with the 908 MK3, the Targa Florio. Frank Williams proposes two measuring rods to him Formulates of them 1 at the wheel of the De Tomaso 505 but Redman cannot take share with the tests qualifiers of the GP of Great Britain following a mechanical concern on the single-seater then fails in qualifications at the time of the Grand Prix of Germany.

In 1971, Redman signs a contract with Ferrari which proposes to him to be the fellow-member of Clay Regazzoni at the wheel of the 312P. It carries out however a measuring rod for Surtees at the time of the inaugural Grand Prix of F1 of South Africa where it qualifies its TS7 in bottom of grid before failing the door of the points in the 7th place. It is devoted then entirely to the Sport and if it takes down one success at the time of this season of training at Ferrari (9 hours of the Rand), it is classified all the same 2nd of the 1.000 km Buenos-Surfaces, 4th the 6 hours of Daytona and 5th of the 1.000 km Brands-Hatch.

It continues its career in Sport in 1972 at Ferrari and supplements its prize list at the wheel of the 312PB while finishing 2nd of the 1000 km Buenos-Surfaces then by gaining the 1000 km of Spa as a crew with Arturo Merzario. It also gains in duet with Ickx the 1000 km of Austria on Osterreichring and Ferrari gains the cut of the manufacturers. Its good performances enable him to dispute three tests of Formula 1 within the stable Mc Laren. It renews contact with the discipline queen by taking down the 5th place of the GP of Monaco. At the time of the GP of France, it must be satisfied with the 9th final place but again takes down the 5th place at the time of the test of Nurburgring. At the end of the season it carries out a measuring rod for BRM in the United States but its P180 only enables him to be qualified in bottom of grid and the constrained one with the abandonment with the semi-race.

In 1973, it continues its career in Sport and gains thanks to the 312PB two new victories with Jacky Ickx (1000 km of Monza and Nurburgring). It also takes down four other podiums before turning over in F1 to dispute the race of fence with Watkins Glen. It runs for L `stable beginner of Gift Nichols Shadow and is classified 13th on the grid at the wheel of the DN1. Unfortunately it is victim of a slew-round and disqualified to have been thorough. This same year, Brian contacts the pilot amateur Carl Haas and manages to convince it to assemble its own stable of Formula 5000, Redman thinking of being more capable to prove its potential in the single-seater in this discipline than in F1.

In March 1974, Brian Redman is called in catastrophe by Shadow to replace Peter Revson which has just committed suicide under private tests. It takes the wheel of the DN3 at the time of the Grands Prix of Spain, from Belgium and Monaco but manages to qualify itself only in bottom of grid and obtains one 7th place in Monaco like better result. These three races will be its last in F1 and it as envisaged joined the stable Haas-Hall which engages of the Lola. Brian makes a success of its bet since it gains three successes and gains the title of F5000.

In 1975, it continues in F5000 at Haas and must fight like a lion against Mario Andretti: the two pilots gain four races each one but Redman is again titrated. It disputes also some races in Sport, at BMW, and gains over 3.0 CSL the 12 hours of Sebring with Allan Moffat, Sam Posey and Hans-Joachim Stuck. In 1976, it gains, always at Carl Haas, its third consecutive title in F5000 with three victories and Sport, the 24 hours of Daytona with Peter Gregg and John Fitzpatrick over BMW CSL. In 1977, Formula 5000 is abandoned and Haas is directed then towards Super Vee and the CanAm. If, from 1977 to 1980, Haas goes to accumulate the victories thanks to Patrick Tambay, Alan Jones and Jacky Ickx, it will be about it differently for Redman which is victim of a serious accident as of its first race in Canada on the circuit of the Mount-Trembling. Its sporting season is ruined and it takes again the competition only in 1978. Scalded by its Edge-Am experiment, Redman turns over in Sport at Porsche. At the wheel of the 935, it gains the 12 hours of Sebring for the second time. It again gains the 24 hours of Daytona in 1981, out of turbo Porsche 935, associated with Bobby Rahal and Bob Garretson.

In 1989, Brian Redman, rich person of a prize list where only a victory at the 24 hours of Mans misses hang up again the gloves and settle in the United States while continuing to imply itself in the world of the automobile competition.
