Breynia disticha
Breynia disticha is a shrub of the family of the Phyllanthaceae in the past subfamily of the Euphorbiaceae.

? The species is not endemic, but it was not introduced either, it is indigenous. It is the only New Caledonian species of the kind.
Description
This shrub has fine very ramified branches. Its silhouette is very particular: the branches have all the sheets arranged on the same direction and the same plane. It does not exceed 1,5 meters and generally makes 1 meter in height. The bark is green clear on the starts-up, it is sunk on the older branches. The sheets do not push opposite one the other and all are laid out on the same plan, which gives the impression that they are posed on a plate. They are of glaucous color green, enough chechmate. They are smooth, soft with the touch, relatively thick and punts. They make from 3 to 5 cm length and have an overall round form.
Reproduction
There exist female flowers and male flowers. The female flowers are rather astonishing: small (5mm of diameter), they have the shape of a crown and are of color clear green. The petals are welded. The male flowers even more discrete, are in form of cut at the bottom of which cheesecloths are. They are placed at the hollow of each sheet.
Reproduction
Flowering takes place in March /avril. The fruits resemble the fruits of the Phyllanthus . In fact small balls of a dull green remain surrounded a long time of the sepals of the flower.
Place in the forest dries of New Caledonia
This plant is spread enough, but it pushes better in the zones buissonnantes very near to the littoral or on the small islands. It is a species which pushes under wood in the zones semi-shade, semi-light.
Use
This plant is not used but there exists a decorative plant very near which one names the snow-covered one or the leprous one. They have the same general aspect, except that the sheets of leprous reddish and are strewn with tasks blanchâtres.
