Firm of Étournelles

The current residence of the farm of Étournelles (or the Small towers) rests on the basis of strengthened manor old of which there remains only one turret. This one was transformed towards 1671 by Louis Béchameil (1630 - 1707), superintendent of Sir, brother of Louis XIV, to become an important farm. The dwelling was altered at the 19th century, but the imposing barn with harvest, built towards 1680 is remained intact.

In 1851, the ancestors of the current owners entrusted the creation of one landscaped garden to Louis-Sulpice Varé (1803 - 1864), landscape gardener. The park underwent only tiny modifications due for the majority to the ageing of the trees.

The park is supplemented by a kitchen garden, closed walls which forever ceased being exploited since its creation. This continuity explains why certain species of plants are very old and are recognized botanical. The kitchen garden preserved its fitting of origin. Two principal alleys in cross and of the secondary alleys determine eight squares bordered of cut boxwood adding up one kilometer of edge. The portions of the road surface are delimited by lines the long-lived ones (iris, Campanule S, Primevère S…) and rythmées by fruit trees cut out of stopper rod or cord (Apple tree S, Pear tree S). Two lines of frame shelter sowings and road repairs of vegetables, of annual flowers, according to the same method as at the 17th century. These plants are then installation inside the squares, by observing a principle of rotation and by seeking a balance of colors and dimensions. Between the fruit trees, hardy perennials (Peony S, Rose tree S, Poppy S…) alternate with Dahlia S of which the provision varies each year.
