Bretislav III of Bohemia
Henry Bretislav III (Czech: Jindřich Břetislav ) Bishop of Prague 1182 with 1197 duke of Bohemia of 1193 with 1197
Ottokar I {{er}} of Bohemia took the head of the duchy in 1192 but it enters in conflict with the emperor Henri VI of the Holy roman Empire which deprives it of its crown as of June 1193 with the diet of Worms.
Bretislav III Jindřich wire of prince Jindřich was the cousin of the precedent. After brilliant studies at the universities of Paris it was named provost of the chapter of Vyšehrad close to Prague and accepted in 1182 the diaconate of the hands of his cousin the archbishop of Salzburg Adalbert of Bohemia. Elected in the current one of the same year bishop of Prague it went to Mainz in order to receive the imperial nomination there. It is ordered priest on May 22nd and is crowned bishop the following day.
In the family quarrels which tore the Bretislav dynasty supported Ottokar the son of the king Vladislav II of Bohemia. It engaged with respect to the emperor without being able to hold his promise to pour for account of Ottokar Ier and its brother Vladislav III of Bohemia become marquis of Moravie the sum of 6.000 ecus.
The emperor who had stopped Brestilav III on the way of a pilgrimage with Compostelle and retained it quasi captive at his court. He exempted it payment of the tribute and indicated it in August 1193 at the time of the diet of Worms as duke in the place of Ottokar which was given up by the nobility.
The duke bishop had to conquer Bohemia by the weapons because his/her cousin refused the sentence. He settled in Prague before Christmas and drove out of Moravie in 1195 Vladislav III Jindrich to install in this province of the princes won over to his cause.
The new duke also took part in an imperial campaign in Misnie where its army made violences and plunderings even against the goods of the church. He was about to take part in the crusade decided with the diet of Worms in December 1195 but that Ci was given to 1197 and he died the 15 or the June 19th of this same year after a long illness.
