Administration
Administrative cutting
Like a great number of communes having depended on the châtellenie on Reopen-in-Plain (only abolished in 1782), Bretenière is first of all attached to the canton of Reopen in 1793. This canton will be removed under the Consulat in 1801: Bretenière will depend then on the canton of Genlis.
In addition, between 1790 and 1794, the former priory of Époisses, about Grandmont, removed by letter patent on March 3rd, 1770 and whose goods were dispersed the following year, is gradually absorbed administratively by Bretenière. In 1793, one finds the municipality of " thus; Bretignière & Époisse ". The hamlet of Saint-Phal is also integrated into the commune of Bretenière. After 1801, one will alternativment find alternativment the two names of " Bretenière " and " Bretenières ".
