Brennilis is located at the foot of the Mont Saint-Michel of Brasparts and of the marshes of the Yeun Elez.

The Lac Saint-Michel extends on 500 ha, supplied with some brooks of which the Roudouhir. Three other communes are also bordering lake: Botmeur, Brasparts and Loqueffret. The lake Saint-Michel is an artificial lake: the dam Nestavel was built on the Elez at the end them years 1930 in order to make function in a regular way the hydro-electric factory of Saint-Herbot located downstream.

Industry

Between 1962 and 1967, the experimental nuclear plant of Brennilis known as “of the Mounts of Arrée” was built by the ECA and EDF. It was an experimental reactor, an industrial prototype intended to prove the reliability of the die heavy Eau (EL). So he is baptized EL 4. Because of the low power of the engine (70 MW), and taking into account the positive French energy situation at the time, EL 4 is stopped in July 1985.
