Bregenz

Bregenz is the chief town of the Vorarlberg, the province more in the west of the Austria. Its surface is of 29,50 km ² and it shelters: 28952 inhabitants. It is located on left bank of the Lac of Constancy and to the foot of the Pfänder mountain (: 1062 m).
She is traversed by Bregenzer Ach. Bregenz is with the crossing of the roads and waterways of the valley of the Rhine to the feet of the the German Alps. The Suisse is to 5 km in the west and Germany starts in the east of the city.
The first colonies were founded in towards -1500. Brigantiers, Celtic people, arrived starting from -400 at Vorarlberg.
In 15 av. J. - C., the Roman invade this area and found the city Brigantium there. There remains still much of vestiges of this period. Brigantium quickly grew before receiving the right of town of Rome.
The city is destroyed during the migration of the German people into 259 then rebuilt by a population made up of Brigantiers and Romans.
The principality of Habsbourg buys the Bregenz county in 1451. When the noble family of the counts de Montfort of the area of the Lac of Constancy dies out, Bregenz is attached to the Austrian duchy.
Of 1805 with 1841, Bregenz belongs to the kingdom of Bavaria. In 1815, the Congress of Vienna, the Bavaria gives up the area of the Vorderösterreich, of which Bregenz forms part. Vorarlberg again forms part of the kingdom of Austria. In 1861, Vorarlberg receives its own Parliament of a Land, which sits at Bregenz.
Until the beginning of the First World War, Bregenz is a garrison of the army K.u.K. Austro-Hungarian.
In 1918, the administration of the the Tyrol and that of Vorarlberg separate. The Vorarlberg becomes an independent department having for chief Bregenz place.
Today, the city is especially famous for the Bregenzer Festspiele , a festival of summer of music. Its great attraction is the part played on a floating scene in July and in August. In 2007, will take place Tosca di Giacomo Puccini.
The other places not to miss are: the Tower of Martin, the church of Welsh Saint, the House of art, the De luxe hotel of the office postal and the walk along the lake.
