Breaking of password
The breaking of password (in English: password cracking ) is a process of covering of passwords of a Computing system.
Objectives
This process punctually makes it possible to help a user of the system to find a lost password or to obtain an unauthorized access to the system.
In a step of a professional of safety, this process is a precautionary measure making it possible to check the real security level of the passwords, this one being able to be compared with the level required by the existing Politique of the passwords.
Context
There exist various techniques to obtain a password, for example:
- By using techniques traditional of Espionage: social engineering, phone-tapping, hameçonnage, excavation of dustbin;
- By using techniques of Cryptanalyse: temporal Attack, acoustic Cryptanalyse;
- By the use of a Malicious software: Recording of striking, virus, Trojan horse;
- By the use of faults in software protection: skirting of the request for password to the starting of the computer.
However, the breaking of a password is generally carried out by trying to it to guess .
Methods
Various generic methods exist to break a password, of which for example:
- By guessing the password if it is very simple,
- Attaque by dictionary,
- Attaque by rough force,
- Attaque by Table rainbow.
