Breakbeat

The breakbeat is initially a binary rhythmic model resulting from the Musique Funk. One finds the first examples of breakbeats in the musical accompaniments artists Funk and Soul like James Brown, Herbie Hancock or Lyn Collins.

By extension, the breakbeat term can be employed in a generic way to designate the family of musical genres which make use of this type of rhythmic, for example the Hip hop, the Drum and low or the Trip hop. One will also naturally indicate by this term the music calling upon rates/rhythms breakbeat but which cannot be classified in a more specific musical genre.

It was created with the the United States by the DJ of Hip-Hop DJ Kool Herc which passed in loop the same extract of song on which were present only the low one and the percussions. He had indeed noticed that the public reacted better in the instrumental passing. The dancers of Hip-Hop named breakers because of the rate/rhythm used. He is always played in the battles of Breakdance.

Technically, the sequence breakbeat is carried out starting from existing samples of battery resulting from recording or then built in an original way using a Boîte at rates/rhythms or of a acoustic battery.

Today, the breakbeat term is especially used for the electro one. It indicates a type of music using many low on rates/rhythms very involving. This derivative of the kind primarily developed in England. One distinguishes several variations from them, such as the happy Big, the Nu skool station-wagons or the progressive Breakbeat. It is represented by groups or DJs like the Stanton Warriors, Adam Freeland or the Plump DJs.
