Brangus
The race Brangus is a bovine race American. The name comes from the contraction of Brahman and angus .
Origin
It is a European ox hybrid, Bos taurus , and of Zébu, Bos taurus indicus . This race was created on a research station in Louisiana starting from 1932. It was decided to cross the Brahman S with recognized qualities of strength to the tropical diseases and heat with the angus, race highly productive and with the quality of recognized meat. In parallel of many stockbreeders tried the same crossing in more than 16 states of the the United States and the Canada. Their work was gathered in 1949 during the creation of the ABBA, American Brangus Breeders Association. The race had been born and had a pedigree. It is unchanged since and includes/understands around 3/8 from Brahman and 5/8 of angus.La race essaimé in all the states of the Littoral of the Gulf of Mexico then in many countries with tropical Climat wet.
Morphology
It wears a black uniform dress ( black brangus ) or red ( red brangus ) according to the origin of the angus (black or red). They do not carry horns. Their pace borrows little from the esthetics of the zebus: no the bump, nor of horns, just a skin looser than that of the European bovines.Aptitude
It was created only for its value bouchère. Recognized qualities of the brangus are:- maternal Good qualities: fertility, precocity, facility of vélage and good lactation.
- Resistance to the tropical difficulties: little weight loss in dry period and good acclimatization with the heat like cold in the open air integral.
- Race adapted to a rich food (large performances) or to thin grazing grounds. (honourable output, higher than much of other races)
- Taken fast weight of calves, adapted well to the fattening in Feed batches.
